A Welcome From Your Child's School Counselor
Wearing many different hats in education for ten years, I've discovered that elementary students bring out the BEST in my professional life. Their energy, creativity, and their desire to discover more about themselves are just a few of the rewards of working with Echo Hills and Fishcreek students. With a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, I began my career working as a preschool teacher, tutor, and elementary school teacher. While earning my master’s degree as a school counselor (Malone University), I spent much time enjoying my hobby of acting in community theatre. I try to bring my theatrical background into working with students each day, hoping they learn more when I engage their imaginations and interests. My involvements as a school counselor, teacher, and tutor extend to Canton City Schools, Kent City Schools, farther away, Manatee County in Florida, and of course, our wonderful district. Thank you for your support and communication. As always, I strive to be a positive force in your child’s education.

*This year, the district has assigned elementary counselors as "Encore teachers," which means our schedule and roles differ slightly from previous years. The focus will remain on the same standards, but our role will be teaching these standards in the Encore rotation schedule setting.
Why Elementary School Counselors?
“Elementary school years set the tone for developing the knowledge, attitudes, and skill necessary for children to become healthy, competent, and confident learners. Through a comprehensive developmental school counseling program, school counselors work as a team with the school staff, parents, and the community to create a caring climate and atmosphere. By providing education, prevention, early identification, and intervention, school counselors can help all children achieve academic success. The professional elementary school counselor holds a master’s degree and requires state certification in school counseling. Maintaining certification includes ongoing professional development to stay current with education reform and challenges facing today’s students.” (American School Counselor Association, 2015).
